Quality built 3 flat! |
Portage Park is a wonderful area of Chicago, located on the northwest side of the City. Its parameters are Cicero on the east and Narragansett on the west. North is Montrose and south is Belmont. It is a large area in the city and supports a lot of businesses, a hospital, grocery, dining and entertainment. It is named Portage Park because of the huge park located at Irving Park and Central. It is a huge park with many programs available for city residents. There is also a new senior center that has many programs. Portage Park has a newer Olympic sized swimming pool and a separate pool for diving and it was used in the Olympics in the 50's. Mark Spitz also did his trials here!! There is a kiddies pool area and area for adults only. When the park was built in the 20's a lagoon was built and this is where the pools are now. The gymnasium was built in the 20's and is a testament to prairie architecture. There is even an indoor pool for the wintertime!

Portage Park is mostly families and has a stable economy. We have a good number of city employees in the area and a lot of small businesses and small industrial companies that provide employment. Being part of the bigger picture of Chicago we are known as "The City that works"!

The classic Portage Park A beauty |

An american 4 square in Old Portage Park.
In Portage Park we have a variety of single family housing and 2 to four flats, mostly brick and built between 1925 and 1960 with some new subdivisions thrown in there too, however here in Portage Park the bungalow is king!! We have beautiful octagons with stained glass and regular bungalows built like the rock of Gibraltar! We even have a bungalow program that is very informative and has some good programs to rehab them at special financing rates see http://www.chicagobunglaow.org/ for more information. The average list price for single family homes in Portage Park for 2004 (thru October 15,2004) is $312,000 and the average sale price is $304,000. This takes in brick AND frame residences.
