Jefferson Park
Jefferson Park was settled in the 1830's by John Kinzie Clark and was later joined by other settlers and they had a small settlement around what is now known as Milwaukee, Lawrence and Higgins road. Abraham Gale came to the area and built the first frame home in Jefferson. In fact, Gale Street is named after him! In 1850 Jefferson Park was linked to the city by Milwaukee Avenue and Elston Plank Road. Amos Snell owned these roads and he charged a toll to use them until 1889 when the city of Chicago annexed the town of Jefferson and the citizens burned down the tollbooths. Where the Jefferson Park field house and pool are now was once a farm owned by the Esdohr family and they had a water pump there for the residents. When streetcar service was introduced, it gave a big boost to Jefferson Park. It remained a great northwest side quiet community. When the Kennedy expressway was built in the 1950's, Jefferson Park took off!!! With the arrival of the new blue line on the CTA and the arrival of a METRA station, it made it a really great place to live. Now you have the CTA bus terminal, with more than 800 buses arriving and departing each day, the Blue line to downtown and the METRA train all within a 5-minute ride from any home in Jefferson Park.
The area is predominantly single family and two to four flats, but there is a new wave of condos being built and they are selling very, very quickly because of the incredibly convenient location of transportation. There is a real neighborhood feel to Jefferson Park with it's own downtown at Higgins/Lawrence/Milwaukee. Local restaurants include great ribs at the Gale Street Inn and it has a fanatical following! We have great local ethnic restaurants too. Jefferson Park is home to the new 16th district police station and the Copernicus Center for cultural activities in Jefferson Park.

Buying Land and New Construction >Building With Help From Brokers
Did you know that, for no additional cost, you can be represented by a real estate broker in conjunction with purchasing a home from a builder? Homebuilders are accustomed to working with real estate brokers and often their commission is already covered in their marketing and promotion costs.
A broker can provide objectivity and guidance in designing your home and help you select amenities that will lead to a more advantageous resale. He or she can help coordinate the sale of your present home and the closing of the new one.
Many brokers offer guaranteed home sale programs so that when your new home is finished, the real estate company will buy your previous home at a pre-agreed price to prevent you from owning two homes at one time; and can usually arrange the occupancy agreeable to all parties. Take advantage of using your real estate broker in conjunction with building your new home at no additional cost.
