During the summer there is an endless stream of FREE world-class music festivals in Grand Park, a huge downtown park, that literally draw visitors from all around the world. Chicago is renown for its Jazz, Blues, Gospel and other music festivals.
Every kind of restaurant and shopping imaginable is available in Chicago as well. As the music festivals wind down, they are replaced by the "Taste of Chicago" held in the same lakeside parks. That is an enormously fun event in which every restaurant in town sets up a booth and offers samples of their cuisine and drink for a nominal charge. It is a great way to scope out your "soon to be" favorite restaurants in town--especially if you are new to the area. There is no end of fun in Chicago! It is such a lively town.
A wonderful transportation system makes it easy to get around too. Many folks don't even need cars. Who hasn't heard about the famous Chicago "El" system?
Major companies like Kraft Foods, Boeing, United Air Lines, Baxter, and Motorola--just to name a few--are also headquartered here, so the economy is broadbased and robust.
